How did you get involved with roller derby?: My dear next door neighbor (VaLisa Raptor) asked me to come to a practice "just to watch". I was hooked from the moment I saw the ladies on the track.

How did you choose your derby name?: bell hooks is a feminist scholar and author. She studies the intersection of race, class, gender and culture. My research follows all those lines. She has been influential in my academic world. I wanted a name that tied to my life. And again, my awesome next door neighbor stepped in and came up with the great name. My number is 1972, the year Title IX was passed. It is legislation that forever changed the course of my athletic and academic career.

Pre-Derby Sports Background: Played soccer for Virginia Tech, go hokies!

Off Skates Workouts: running, spinning, being tortured by TwelveLions :) eating, tv watching....

Best Fresh Meat Moment: just one.... no chance. Me and my homies in the corner had a million awesome moments :)

Favorite Derby Moment: making the team

Likes: long walks on the beach -- hehe

Dislikes: racoons and bats..... and probably soon, possums

Derby Heroes: All of them. Especially the ones in my life that introduced me to the sport and encouraged me to continue in the sport.
